Bug#975655: RFS: smlnj -- Standard ML of New Jersey interactive compiler [QA upload]

Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear Mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for a QA upload of the 'smlnj' package.

The Debian package has not been updated in four years except for minor
maintenance work. I have now packaged the latest upstream version,
110.98.1, which, most notably, contains actual support for amd64:
Until now, the smlnj package on amd64 shipped 32-bit binaries; see
#796661.

This is fixed now, but since upstream does not yet support the NLFFI
component for amd64, I had to drop the two corresponding packages for
amd64. They never should have been built on this architecture, anyway,
though, because as I was saying, prior to the version I have now
packaged, the amd64 packages contained 32-bit code.

Apart from this, I performed some maintenance work, such as accounting
for the fact that compat 11 changed the directory into which the -doc
package installs most of its contents. I also added a simple
autopkgtest to verify that the package is functional. The package is
not Lintian-clean, but my changes did not cause any additional
warnings that are not already present in the current version.

I would also like to ask you to give me "Maintainer" access to the
Salsa repository (https://salsa.debian.org/debian/smlnj) so that I can
push my changes to it; currently, you can look at them in this fork
and on Mentors:

Thanks!
Fabian
