When trying to start the program, I instead get a web browser spawned,
talking about a "new" version 5.2. Only a long time later, the game

You change the URL to https://salsa.debian.org/demarchi-guest/glpeces which,
I'm pretty certain, won't get any further updates. Thus, it won't include
even the version you want to upload.
