One of the RC bugs is tagged 'wontfix' -- and that is also upstream's response.
I've had a look at the second RC bug. I need to confirm this, but it seems that
the 'dependency' variable needs to be 2.8. This can be hard-coded, or we
could take a set and forget approach and do something like:
dependency = $(libpkg) (>= `echo $(ver) | sed 's|\([0-9]\.[0-9]\).*|\1|'`)

Yes, the attitude turned towards removing freetype-config. Previous attempts
to fix freetype-config did not impress [1]. That aside, I'll try to contact
Steve and Matthias.

I can't expect you to have in-depth knowledge of every package.
