I dropped an email to the list a while back but never got a reply. I also asked Gianfranco, but he prefers to prioritize on Stretch.
A personal recommendation would be to put the so version (9) in the filename pattern of your debian/lib*9.install file so that whenever the soname gets bumped you'll instantly notice it while building. Ofcourse lintian will also complain about soname not matching package name, but that's less subtle and you can't really have too many safeguards in place to catch potential mistakes in package ABI handling.....
I never thought about this trick, this is very good advice indeed!
Would also be interesting to know what your interest in packaging this library is. Do you have or intend to package something using this library?
Basically, I want to roll-up libopenshot-audio, libopenshot and openshot-qt in experimental first, test the application (openshot-qt) there and release to unstable when ready.
