I would also open a bug severity important and tags patch against the package,
just in case we will have to NMU it, we would have left enough time for the maintainers
to reply and give us their opinion.

I would give them at least 15 days after both bugs are opened, and then upload on experimental.

I didn't understand this sentence.

We can probably upload on experimental, wait for them to be fixed (or NMU them) and in the meanwhile
go for unstable.

this is my point of view, not sure if the best one.
please open the other bug, and then remove the moreinfo tag.
in that case I'll upload probably on experimental in deferred/15 queue, to let maintainers answer and followup
on this package.
