[...] although with "inactivity" i meant rather actively developing new features etc than just maintaining. But on the other side, the maintaining part is also not that active (e.g. the wicd-devel mailinglist has very low traffic) but of corse not non-existent.
well, that argument is a bit flawed. For instance, the discussion on the lintian error for at_console: i personally felt that we as debian project could not decide how to solve this problem without asking upstream (especially because we don't know the other distros opinion) - (of which i thought doesn't have an opinion on this topic, see my initial words). But on the other side, even when upstream doesn't have an opinion on this - they probably won't care if we'd apply that upstream.
