Seeking advice and a mentor for mikmod packages

I'm interested in taking over the custody of the mikmod and libmikmod 
packages from Gergely Nagy per #728592.  Therefore I prepared 
debianization directories for these packages[1].  These were copied and 
adapted from the existing ones to build and install the latest of these 
packages.  The one for libmikmod seems to work fine.  I can install the 
resulting .deb and then build mikmod by hand.  That works.  But, when I 
try to build the mikmod deb, I get this:

What am I missing?
