question on git-buildpackage

hi,

(i hope this is the right place to ask this question?)

i'm currently investigating the effort of building clean debian packages
for emc2 (linuxcnc.org) for a project (with the intent to get them into
debian in the end).

i have however a question on how to start the work:
upstream uses git and currently provides 3 branches that are intresting
for packaging:
*) stable release
*) upcoming release
*) master

is there an efficient way for working with 3 upstream branches in
git-buildpackage and i'm not shure if i'm going to need 1 or 3 debian
branches since the buildprocess and dependencies are quite similar for
all versions (at least at the moment.)

any directions or hints on how to best solve this situation?

(i'm not new to git and have some knowledge on debian packaging, though
i'm not a real expert on the later)

thanks,

yours,
albert
