dear Debian Mentors, I'm upstream author for 3 source uploads regularly included in Debian. I'm studying debian packaging, using it for distribution and testing as well following bugs on QA and Launchpad, so I'm taking care of fixing bugs coming my way. It's been also a while that i'm fixing bugs and sending fixes until and somehow we arrive to a point in which i don't have the "authority" necessary to maintain my own packages (for which i'm upstream and uploader) because people here *don't have time*. so, is this really the place where someone mourns 'apt-get anarchy'?! what is most upsetting in the whole story is that *i've found the time*, *i've fixed the bugs*, and i'm ready to upload them. meanwhile my QA page lists bugs and desasters all over and i'm constantly denied to upload my fixes. this is a Kafkian nightmare for a developer. can i PLEASE become maintainer for my packages? can someone find the time to solve this situation please? i think debian has a great build system and is a great distribution, but if you keep it this way it is going to become the HELL of UPSTREAM and, as you know, it is UPSTREAM that software gets written. yours truly, and thanks for your patience ----- Forwarded message from Lucas Nussbaum <lucas@lucas-nussbaum.net> ----- Date: Tue, 12 Apr 2011 18:00:29 +0200 From: Lucas Nussbaum <lucas@lucas-nussbaum.net> To: Jaromil <jaromil@dyne.org> Cc: 621966@bugs.debian.org Subject: Re: Bug#621966: hasciicam: FTBFS: hasciicam.c:42:28: fatal error: linux/videodev.h: No such file or directory User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15) On 12/04/11 at 14:41 +0200, Jaromil wrote: > > hi Lucas, > > i'm upstream author and i'd like to become the maintainer for the > hasciicam package, having already collaborated in the past to fix this > package and now willing to accelerate such fixes. > > the bug you point out is already fixed in the new upstream release > 1.1.1 of hasciicam, for which i've also made a debian package, see > http://apt.dyne.org/debian/pool/main/h/hasciicam/ > > so far i've found no mentor with time to sponsor my upload. > > i'd be grateful if you can do it and help me proceed through the > process of becoming maintainer for the package.
