Then a bump to the next (20110322) version in conjunction with a config file preset to contain by default the --tollef switch would be the solution to this. The two utilities will be command-line compatible, dependent packages will not break and thus alternatives can be used, as they are appropriate for such a situation. I will leave the setting of priorities to a (far) more seasoned Debian developer than me (NB: after I discovered your gitweb I am a frequent visitor).
