ah.1.gz in the deb archive that you pointed to at the beginning of this
thread is a pure text file that's just formatted vaguely like the output
of nroff. The man page installed in /usr/share/man/man1 must actually
be written in *roff. Maybe you accidentally installed the output rather
than the man page source?
