IME, yes. It isn't as easy as with -O0 or -O2, particularly because sometimes the backtraces "don't make sense" (a function call is elided) or (as with -O2) a variable's lifetime has gotten shorter, but it is still possible. In particular, a backtrace will generally still tell you what library/program to -O0 so that you can bring the full power of gdb to bear.
