Slightly easier than manually trawling source packages, but anyway:

http://walrus.rave.org/source/search?q=&defs=&refs=&path=md5.c&hist=

source.debian.org is a planned service IIRC, maybe whoever sets it up
can be convinced to run LXR or fossology on it to help facilitate such
searching.

Anyway, Google "md5 public domain" is the best way to find a free and
GPL-compatible MD5 implementation. Whether or not it is the best
implementation (speed-wise, etc) is another matter.
