debhelper package and excluding config.guess config.sub from diff

The debian/rules copy the recent config.* files:

    clean: unpatch
            dh_testdir
            dh_testroot
            rm -f build-stamp

            # Add here commands to clean up after the build process.
            [ ! -f $(MAKE) ] || $(MAKE) distclean
    ifneq "$(wildcard /usr/share/misc/config.sub)" ""
            cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.sub config.sub
    endif
    ifneq "$(wildcard /usr/share/misc/config.guess)" ""
            cp -f /usr/share/misc/config.guess config.guess
    endif

The problem is that these end up in the *.diff.gz. I'd rather keep the
diff clean for easier inspection.

Is there a way to exclude certain files from the diff? I'm using
debhelper [1]
