iptstate 2.2.1

OK, please excuse me if this is a noob question answered in an FAQ I 
missed, or if I should be asking somewhere else.  I'm a bit lost here.

I need to install iptstate 2.2.1 on an Debian Etch system. 
Unfortunately, the one in stable is 2.1.1.  2.2.1 is available in 
testing, but that would require updating a lot of things.

I could just compile and link the source for the 2.2.1 version, but I'd 
like not to do this if I don't have to.

I would appreciate any guidance and/or pointers to where I can find more 
about things like this without bothering people here.
