Advice on a Python package: HarvestMan

Dear Mentors,
I am planning to request the addition of HarvestMan to Debian (not
filed an ITP yet).

See the website for more: http://harvestman.freezope.com

Now, I have managed to create a HarvestMan package which generates
debs for python-harvestman, python2.3-harvestman and
python2.4-harvestman. I do this because though HarvestMan works using
Python 2.3, using Python 2.4 provides better performance.

My doubt is:
HarvestMan installs all packages in
/usr/lib/python2.x/site-packages/HarvestMan/. This includes the main
executable. Now, the author's script provides the usual python
build-install sequence followed by the creation of a symbolic link to
the executable in /usr/bin. Should I manually create the link in a
similar fashion? If so, do I use the postinst and prerm scripts, or is
there another way? And, what is the symbolic link already exists for
one version (say the python2.3 version) while installing the other?

Thanks.

Kumar
