How to achieve "Cancel pending actions" equivalent in Sarge?

The version of aptitude in unstable has a very nice feature:

"Cancel pending actions".

This will cause aptitude/apt-get to forget what package
installs/removals were queued (if aptitude install without any further
arguments wants to install/remove something, you have something queued).

Is there any simple way to achieve the same thing on a Sarge system,
other than backporting aptitude?
