The RFC2822 specification allows for a blisteringly complex set of possible addresses, and no sane pattern check will catch them all without being meaninglessly inclusive. The MTA knows how to do this check far better than any registration form code can be expected to. Instead, please allow *any* email address, then attempt to deliver mail to it for verification.
