RFS: xbsql -- SQL wrapper for XBase DBMS library

Hi,

I would like to request a sponsor for xbsql package.
Package files can be downloaded from:

http://www.pronet.pl/~rlewczuk/xbsql00

After reading some docs I'm still uncertain about some things:

-- linda indicates that Build-depends on debhelper is unnecessary, but
removing that dependency results in linda messages that debhelper
version and debhelper compatibility level don't match (compat=4);
how can I resolve this ?

-- upstream version creates shared object files with version number
'0.0.0'; shall I fix this ?

-- linda crashes on libxbsql-dev package: it tries to open libxbsql.so
symlink and then produces something like this:

Check FilesCheck failed. Exception OSError thrown ([Errno 2] Nie ma
takiego pliku ani katalogu:
'/tmp/linda-lab-57114/unpacked/usr/lib/libxbsql.so').

-- xql functionality seems to be a little crippled: bulk inserting does
not work correctly, probably due to bug in xql; however, it is still
pretty functional; does it eliminate package from being accepted, ie.
shall I dig into sources and fix this immediately ? (policy says that
some bugs shall be corrected by maintainer and sent to upstream but does
not seem to be precise in this matter) ?

-- a build-time bug has been worked around in debian/rules (clean target
needs to be invoked from main directory and from one of its
subdirectories); shall I fix this by patching appropriate Makefile.am ?
(it makes package quite more complicated) ?

-- config.guess and config.sub are copied from debian defaults; it
generates quite some bloat to .diff but seems to be accepted;
am I right ?

Regards,

rle

  Description : SQL wrapper for XBase DBMS library

 XBSQL is a wrapper library which provides an SQL-subset interface to
Xbase DBMS. XBSQL by no way provides anything like a complete SQL
implementation, and in any case is hampered by various limitations of
XBase (such as no i notion of a null value). However, it implements a
fairly useful subset, including select, insert, update and delete;
select for instance supports joins, ordering, grouping and the having
clause.
