dealing with bugs in package/debian files

hi,
how have i to deal with bugs in the files in the debian directory of the
package? for expample i found a spelling mistake in the debian/changelog
file of kernel-package.
should i write a personla message to the maintainer of this package so
he can change this in his next package release or should i write a mail
to the bts?
regards nico
