Sorry for asking this. Maybe it has already been answered.

I have been pushing mplayer developers (might even be the cause why they
do not care about by bug reports anymore) to have the complete code as
GPL.

So far, as announced in their mailing list, mplayer is completelly GPL,
except for an small set of files, which can be disabled during build, so
the package can be introduced in Debian.

Regarding the Win32 libs, they can be left out, as we do with msttfonts.

Maybe is time to ask again in mplayer list about the GPL status of their
code...


On the other hand, installing the KMencoder should request for user
input, asking where the mencoder utility is located (maybe the script
can check common places and provide them as possibilities).

I recall some other packages having the same format: telling the user
the package needs another package that is not provided by debian.

But I do not recall the exact package.
