Debian specific translation tasks include the translation of package descriptions (start at <URL:http://ddtp.debian.org/>), debconf templates (you can file them with the bug tracking system), the web pages (see <URL:http://www.debian.org/devel/website/translating>) or about any documentation. Joining <debian-l10n-portugese@lists.debian.org> is probably a good first step. People there can guide you better. Of course localising the programs themselves will benefit all distributors, including Debian. -- Robbe
