are you compiling the kernel modules with MODVERSIONS? if so, you can
put the modules under /lib/modules/2.4/ and you'll only need to
repackage when the modversions checksum changes. however, your
packages for 2.4 will conflict with each other. if you'd like them to
not conflict, your packages will need to modify /etc/modules.conf to
change the path
