Yes; there is a reason why you might want to build with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug: the executables in the package will then be
stripped, but the executables in the build tree will have debugging
symbols.  Then if there is a need to run a core trace or debug
something, you can use the versions in the build tree without having
to recompile (which might change stuff).
