Change in name of a library package

Hi,

I'm packaging the Commom Multimedia Library, from UCL. It is used by
some MBone programs such as sdr and rat. The name of the upstream
distribution is just "common" (common-1.2.0.tar.gz). When it first
entered Debian, (release 1.0.5), it was named uclcommon. Later on
(release 1.0.6), its name was changed to mbonecommon.

I'm not happy with either of these names. I don't like uclcommon
because it says nothing about what the library is about, and probably
there is more "common" software comming from UCL. I don't like
mbonecommon since it is not common to all MBone software, and in fact it
could be useful for non-MBone software (since it includes for instance
an implementarion of RTP, useful in unicast programs).

After considering some alternatives, I'm proposing "uclmmcommon" (for
UCL MultiMedia COMMON library) for the package of release 1.2, which
I'm taking over. I've proposed this to the previous maitainer, and he
has nothing to say against it. But I have some questions:

- Can I take this decission myself, or it has to be discussed in some
list?

- Should I ask upstream which name do they prefer?

- Is there any easy way of knowing all packages depending on this
library, so that I can warn the corresponding developers?

Thanks for your answers,

        Jesus.
