RE: License and section



For licensing issues you probably should use -legal
instead of -mentors.

Technically it is a modification to package it for
Debian. Do you think you have permission to:
- produce one shot package for Debian
- package this release for Debian *and* maintain the
  packaging part in the future
- package this release for Debian *and* maintain the
  ROOT part *and* packaging part in the future
- blanket license to package all future releases for
  Debian and maintain at least the packaging part
  (this would be my guess)
- something else?

As has been pointed out this is definitely very non-free.
Perhaps the ROOT-team is concerned to preserve their
reputation and package integrity. In that case you could
try to persuade them to change license to
  distribute under different name if modified
type of license. I believe that it was considered free.
