You needed to go one level deep. The same page has gnumed-client-de which is a binary
package of this source package. On checking the same at

        https://packages.debian.org/sid/gnumed-client-de

You'd see:

        * dep: libchipcard-tools
        tools for accessing chipcards

Hence, gnumed-client is indeed threatended by the removal of libchipcard-tools.

libchipcard and libgwenhywfar both need to take care of their
individual RC bugs, yes. Nothing to be done from gnumed-client side AFAICS.
