Fate of Bio::Perl newbie module?

I see that the Bio::Perl newbie module was removed in 1.7.3, but I can't find the successor on CPAN or GitHub.

Any hints?

This is blocking the acceptance of the 1.7.6 bioperl releases into Debian as this breaks the package "roary".

A patch to roary that replaces the calls to Bio::Perl would also be appreciated.
