Nice work, nothing to add.
Bibliographic work in progress should indeed be spread, once stable, to other teams.
I think it will help scientists to put their package in Debian, knowing that their references are available. I often see scientists, at work, being afraid of open source, thinking their work will not be referenced.
And it would also be a help for scientists using a package to be able to extract the related bibref....
