In general I'm a friend of mudular packaging - I can't decide in this
specific case because I have no idea about the use of this package and
its parts.

Anything more specific (error messages, whatever)

I have not looked into it but in figtree I tried some magic to obtain
the latest version from a webpage and get the actual source from a
different place (SVN).  I tried another approach in libjebl2-java which
is a watch file for SVN changes.  If both is not helpful I always made
very good experiences with asking on debian-mentors list ...
