I fully agree.
Other sources of information I typically use to get an idea
of a package I just installed:
apt-cache show <package-name>
Hence the package description should try to give at least a
*tiny* hint towards what to do next: "you must configure
OpenMRS for your use, /usr/share/doc/openmrs/README.Debian
tells you how":
$> apt-cache show gnumed-server
Package: gnumed-server
...
Description: medical practice management - server
...
This package contains the PostgreSQL server part.
Note: The package does currently _NOT_ build the GNUmed database
but just installs the needed SQL files. Please see README.Debian.
Other than that I often go:
man -k <sensible-part-of-package-name>
say,
man -k openmrs
and would expect to get at least some hints where to go
next. Here's what GNUmed tells you on that:
$> man -k gnumed
gnumed (1) - an electronic MEDICAL record software for GP offices
gm-adjust_db_settings (8) - GNUmed server adjust database settinigs
gm-backup_data (8) - backup of GNUmed data
gm-backup_database (8) - complete backup of GNUmed database
gm-bootstrap_server (8) - bootstrap the latest released version of the SQL database for GNUmed
gm-fixup_server (8) - apply fixup scripts to an SQL database for GNUmed
gm-print_doc (1) - prints documents from within GNUmed
gm-remove_person (8) - GNUmed server remove person from database
gm-upgrade_server (8) - upgrade an existing SQL database for GNUmed to the next version
gm_ctl_client (1) - GNUmed XML-RPC connector for legacy applications
$> man gnumed
says (among other things):
...
