I'm fine with removal of old stuff ...
But if there is packaging stuff somewhere in SVN you should probably use
the external feature of SVN. I just used this for
svn://svn.debian.org/cdd/projects/edu
because debiian-edu source is not maintained under cdd. Unfortunately
I forgot the syntax and svn doc at
http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.0/ch07s03.html
which is the google hit "svn propedit externals" seems to be unavailable.
Just consider this external link which shows others what's going on.
