Subject: Call for Papers: The Use of OSS and ODF in Health and Medical Systems

Hello Andreas,

John Jubal mentioned that you are maintaining the debian-med project. I
quickly browsed the mailinglist archive and couldn't find anything
related to the attached special track at this years IEEE symposium on
CBMS. If you think it is interesting to your subscribers, please post it
to the mailinglist. Please excuse if I missed the posting.

Thanks for your help, Benjamin

P.S. The dealine is end of the month!

                            CALL FOR PAPERS

          The Use of OSS and ODF in Health and Medical Systems

                 June 22-23, 2006, Salt Lake City, Utah

              Special Track at the 19th IEEE International
               Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems

The support of Open Source Software (OSS) and Open Document Formats
(ODF) in academic, governmental and business organizations has been
continuously increasing over the last couple of years. However, the
acceptance in the healthcare community is still low and adoption slow.
This is often caused by misconceptions about OSS and ODF in relation to
important issues such as software reliability and support, data security
and legal liability. Healthcare IT solutions are available under OSS and
ODF licenses, including Lab and EHR appliations, for small, medium and
large clinical institutions.

As part of the IEEE symposium on CBMS, the Use of Open Source Software
and Open Document Formats in Health and Medical Systems track invites
original and high quality submissions addressing all aspects of OSS and
ODF applications in the medical context. The topics of special interest
include, but are not restricted to, the use of OSS and ODF in the
following fields:

     * Bioinformatics
     * Biomedical Knowledge Management
     * Biomedical Ontologies
     * Biosurveillance and Disease Tracking
     * Community Building with OSS in Healthcare
     * Computerised Clinical Guidelines
     * Decision Support Systems
     * Drug and Interaction Databases
     * Electronic Health Record Systems
     * Health Care Applications for Mobile Devices
     * Health Information Systems
     * Laboratory Systems
     * Medical Imaging
     * Personal Health Records
     * Public Health Care Applications
     * Telehealth

Unlike workshops, where position papers and reports on initial and
intended work are appropriate, papers selected for a special track
should report on significant unpublished work suitable for publication
as a conference paper and must not be simultaneously submitted or under
review for any other workshop, conference or journal. Any paper found to
be in violation of these rules will be rejected without review. More
information about the symposium, registration fees and venue can be
found on the CBMS 2006 Website.

original technical research papers will only be accepted in PDF format.
File size is limited to 2 MB. Use a maximum of six A4 pages (approx.
3000 words), including figures and references. Include one cover sheet,
stating the track title ('The Use of OSS and ODF in Health and Medical
Systems'), paper title, authors, the topic of special interest covered
in the article, corresponding author's information (telephone, fax,
mailing address, e-mail address), and your preference for oral or poster
presentation. Author names should appear only on the cover sheet, not on
the paper. Submit your manuscript no later than January 31, 2006.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by March 1st, 2006 after a review
process by three independent experts. Each accepted paper to the Special
Track on The Use of OSS and ODF in Health and Medical Systems will be
published in the conference proceedings by IEEE CS Press, conditional
upon the author's advance registration. Papers that were not accepted by
the Program Committee of the track can be considered for publication as
regular submissions by the General Program Committee of IEEE CBMS 2006.
Submission in the IEEE Computer Science Press 8.5x11inch format is
encouraged. Formatting instructions, LaTeX macros and MSWord templates
are available at ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings.
The final decision on acceptance/rejection of special track papers, and
the number and content of special track sessions will be made by General
