With "them" I meant the f-prot people.

That sounds about right. Anyways, I noticed that at least the
DOS/Win versions have update facilities built into them (for
fetching virus definitions at least). So we don't really need
to worry about that part. I am currently having a look at
whether the Linux version supports that, too.
If you give me an URL I will have a look at uscan to create a
watchfile for f-prot.
