Re: Bug#141352: ITP: xmedcon -- medical image conversion

Hi again,

We need some way to get to a "normal" format and png is not yet included.

The problem is that it's not linked to those libraries now. I also cannot
tell Eric to change a running prog solely for creating a proper debian
package (I am trying to convince him nevertheless). I don't have the time
(and with my knowlegde it would take me quite some time) to change it within
the near future.

It's in the README File:
3. m-matrix.h: changed original code 'matrix.h'

"2.6 10/19/93 Copyright 1989-1993 CTI PET Systems, Inc."

   m-matrix.c: changed original code 'matrix.c'

"2.2 10/19/93 Copyright 1989-1993 CTI PET Systems, Inc."

Both files were changed for host endian independency!

In an email he explained it to me this way:

Actually, we have no
clue. Who knows both are under the "don't copy and
distribute under any circumstances" license? If it ought to be cleared out,
we will need to contact the "proper" institutions.

a) gif code: found in a bought book of which all rights are reserved,
of which code fragments are copyrighted by "Alchemy Mindworks".
and LZW is patended by unisys.

b) ecat code: code dropped on our CTI camera system by Siemens to enable
us to write import and export functionality for an old camera format,
because they coudn't offer it. No papers signed ...>

Have you had a look at the packages at?:
http://neuro.psychologie.uni-oldenburg.de/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/

I have intentionally split medcon and xmedcon to be able to install medcon on
a server without X-Window support. I told xmedcon to recommend medcon
(dselect cares but aptitude doesn't) Should I tell it to depend on medcon?

Opinions anybody?
