Bug#824534: mate-terminal: does not display bidirectional text correctly

Hi,

do you know if simply upgrading to this libvte version fixes
the issue of this bug report?

Yes, all you need is a newer libvte. It's already in Debian's experimental repo.

(What is BiDi support in a terminal at all, anyway? What locale uses
it? Or for what context is it used? How can one enable it?)

It's enabled by default, can be disabled using escape sequences. (Can
also be disabled using an API, but that's meant to be a last resort
kill switch, and needs small work in mate-terminal if you want to do
it. It's not important to have it.) The locale does not matter.

BiDi was implemented based on the proposal at
https://terminal-wg.pages.freedesktop.org/bidi/ , see there for
further details.

Wow, nice draft / document. Nice work!

So, we just have to make sure, mate-terminal gets rebuilt when that latest libvte enters unstable? If that is so, can I ask you to monitor this and once mate-terminal works nicely regarding BiDi, you close this bug?

Thanks+Greets,
Mike
