Linux upstream is super conservative with dropping support for hardware, can
you name a specific driver/component in Linux mainline which suddenly went
unsupported as part of a Debian kernel update?

For example, upgrade from Debian 8 'jessie' to Debian 9 'stretch' unsupported i586 (in favor of i686).

By the way, an upgraded release usually runs slower than the previous one on the same hardware, etc. Probably as a result of the upgraded developers' hardware :-)
