Apologies for jumping in on this thread so late but is this related to
Debian bug #802702? If so, then the upstream bug here:

(I must admit I was somewhat demotivated to work on it further or
otherwise push the adoption of the fix outside of LTS given my patch/
efforts were applied upstream without attribution.)
