live-boot *does* have these options. I've not used those in a while.

'man 7 live-boot' mentions 'toram' and 'fromiso/findiso'.

I will need to log the boot process to study it.

Perhaps you need 'debug', 'nosplash', and similar boot options. You might not need to use a serial device. Also for your convenience, run the live image in e.g. kvm, which simulates a serial device.
