Bug#844217: live-boot: immediately detect medium from live-media parameter

Given the number of side-effects of "checkdev" I'm not convinced that this
change is justified and safe. Running checkdev on less devices because we
have found the good one before the end of the timeout is a change of
behaviour that I'd rather avoid.

If the timeout is annoying, why set it at all? The code should loop until
it finds the desired device.
