live installer and encrypted lvm

Hello,
I am trying to install a debian squeeze system with the debian-installer
that I integrated into a custon debian live system. I chose the live
installer with the option "--debain-installer live". I want to put the
new system into an encrypted LVM. The installation goes well, but when
booting the new sytem I dont get to the password prompt to open the
encrypted partition.
This happens *only* with a custom live system, the prebuilt ones on the
debian live mirrors work okay. I tried a lot of different custon live
systems and also tried to build it without any extra parameters (just
lb_config && lb_build), this also did not work.
What is missing in the custom built systems?
I appreciate any ideas,
biko
