in general, this is a know issue. however, there are two things
involved, one how live-helper sets the partitions, and another that some
version of mkfs.vfat did produce a vfat filesystem that was not
mountable on macosx. i think the latter has been already fixed in
dosfstools. lacking a computer running osx, i somewhat lost track about
that though.
