grub4dos boot from USB fails for "persistent"
When BIOS does not support USB booting, grub4dos offers another means of
booting from the USB. You just copy a few small files to the NTFS
drive, add one line to boot.ini (Windows XP), and keep the squash file
and live-rw (along with some user files) on the VFAT USB. However,
under these circumstances debian-live mounts the USB as readonly and
assigns "root" as owner for all the existing files on the USB. Those
permissions can be changed manually after booting in order to gain
access to the USB, but the real problem is with "persistent" mode: with
that option, booting fails with the message: "Remounting /dev/sda1 rw on
/live/image/live-rw-backing failed."
This is a handy configuration and it would be nice if it were supported.
It seems pretty close to working. It works with puppy linux, but that
boots into root so the permissions problems are not comparable.
