java runtime -No applets displayed
Hello,
I cannot get a java runtime environment to work properly under the
debian-live cd.
I cannot get the applets to display.
I will list how far I have got but feel I'm actually going about this
the wrong way.
I have google'd these lists (and generally) but not found an answer.
I re-master Knoppix OK and my jre settings work OK under konqueror and
opera.
I am using lh_config version 1.0.5-1 and my build line is:
lh_config -d lenny -a i386 -p "kde-core 01_package_add"
-b net --net-root-path /nfsroot2 --net-root-server 192.168.1.19 --
net-tarball none|gzip
--bootapend-live "locale=en_GB.UTF keyb=uk timezone=Europe/London"
By trial and error I found that by copying j2re-1_4_2_13-linux-i586.
bin into <build dir>/config/chroot_local-hooks
the package is installed into my live-cd root under the directory
/j2re1.4.2_13.
As an aside I would really like to
Q1 -install it into /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_13 and
Q2 -I would like my script to auto-answer the licensing questions (ie
quit + yes)
Hence my concern that this is not the intended way to install a jre.
My autostart file have these lines:
sudo ln -fs /j2re1.4.2_13/bin/java /usr/bin/java
sudo ln -fs /j2re1.4.2_13/bin/java_vm /usr/bin/java_vm
sudo ln -fs /j2re1.4.2_13/plugin/i386/ns4/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/lib/opera/plugins/
sudo ln -fs /j2re1.4.2_13/plugin/i386/ns4/libnullplugin.so
/usr/lib/opera/plugins/
Q3 -Could I transfer these line into a hook script?
Upon boot if I type:
# java -version
returns:
java version "1.4.2_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_13-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_13-b06, mixed mode)
When I goto say: opera.com/media/applets/clock and do not get the
clock applet.
I set up java under konqueror via this link: http://www.konqueror.
org/javahowto/
And it does all work under my knoppix re-master. I have duplicated the
setup under opera with the same result.
Q4 - Am I missing some additional packages required by java?
Although I believe I require version j2re1.4.2_13 for HP Proliant iLO
cards I am willing to try other versions.
I note that these are available via apt-get update:
default-jre - Standard Java or Java compatible Runtime
default-jre-headless - Standard Java or Java compatible Runtime
(headless)
openjdk-6-jre - OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT
openjdk-6-jre-headless - OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT
(headless)
openjdk-6-jre-lib - OpenJDK Java runtime (architecture independent
libraries)
My concern here is that that they appear to want a lot of disk space
upto 165MB. I would appreciate any
user feedback on using any of these under a debian-live build and how
to set them up.
Regards
Steve
