first, why aren't those fixed in initramfs-tools in ubuntu itself? it's
imho not the right place to workaround it in live-initramfs.
also, given that with live-initramfs 2.x, we'll drop a bunch of
compatibility stuff for older distributions. it doesn't make sense to
apply new compatibility things for already released, legacy
distributions. remember, you'd need to have a backport of that
live-initramfs and include it manually into the build. the better place
therefore, if at all, is imho to have these changes in an ubuntu
backport (though i don't know much about the procedures of/in ubuntu
anyway).

second, we've refused to support ubuntu specific things in
live-initramfs in the past. reasoning beeing a) ubuntu people are using
casper anyway and not live-initramfs (even when you'd be using
live-initramfs, it would be 'different' and not the 'ubuntu
feeling/$whatever'), b) in generall we don't support something we don't
use/are not able to reproduce.
