I did and I found live also has a "bootfrom" option and the KVM seems
to be functioning just right with or without specifying xdebconf, but
even though I was able to start live (and I have tried a number of
options), bootfrom is not working (I cannot take the live CD out and
using for other functions after loading live) and I see on my normally
not flickering monitor exactly 30 vertical lines too

Again, I must use bootfrom and a KVM. How can I fix these problems?
