to be precise, only the few packages needed for netinst (~80mb or so) is
available twice - when using live-installer, d-i installs the resulting
system not by unpacking .debs from the cdrom, but by unpacking the
squashfs to the harddisk.

nevertheless, also saving those 'few' MBs would be neat.
