Strategy for customized home dir

To create a customized home dir, I'm thinking of using the script

#!/bin/bash
echo "extracting pkuser home dir"
cd /home/pkuser
tar xfj /live/image/pkuser.bz2
chown -R pkuser.pkuser /home/pkuser
echo "done extracting pkuser home dir"

following the suggestion in item 16 of the FAQ,

I will add pkhome.bz2 to the root of the iso image by hand. Does this
seem reasonable?
