Can't toggle boot flag

Hi all,
First of all : a great thank for the job made,
I found it as I was trying to do it ... :P

I followed the wiki's howtos to build a bootable usb sys
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianLive/Howto/USB
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianLive/Howto/ISO

my config :
root: etch 2.6.18-4-amd64
chroot: sid 2.6.18-4-i386 with live-package
chosen make-live : etch 2.6.18-4-486

I configured /etc/make-live.conf
under chroot (sid) :
# make-live [-t usb]
All works well !
but when I :
# USBDEV="/dev/sdf"
# dd if=/var/chroot/dmsl/debian-live/binary.img of=$USBDEV

The resulting partition has no boot flag
And I can't add it because of its "Partition Table: loop"

I had to search by editing lh_losetup, and 'man losetup'
But for now don't understand
Any tips ? :P
thanks
Dams
