work needed for network booting Debian Live

No, because there's no good reason to do so: since the ISO/disc is read-only, 
any changes to the IP address of the server would required throwing away all 
your old CD's and burning a completely new set with the correct IP address on 
them.

However, there may be value in some kind of automatic script that installs 
GRUB to the MBR of a floppy or USB pen drive and then copies the linux and 
initrd to an ext2 partition on the drive. The grub configuration for IP 
address to boot to could be changed by merely editing the menu.lst file. This 
would also be handy for thin-client terminals which have CF-card readers 
built in to the motherboards.
